Florida 2018

Hey hey!

Back towards the end of June, I got the opportunity to go to Orlando, Florida to participate in a National Conference for the organization known as Educator’s Rising.

Educator’s Rising is a place for any and all students who wish to become a teacher or any other job in the education field in the future. There are local chapters throughout the states, but then each summer, everyone comes together for a national conference and competition.

In order to compete at the national level, you must qualify at the local state competition first (and you may remember, that I did just that with my group, back in March!). There are quite aย  handful of events to compete in, in order to give variety and keep everyone busy.

Not only does the National Conference hold the competitions, it is also jam packed with 3 days of seminars from different guest speakers from all around the country. Along with that there is group meals, a karaoke battle, and a dance party! Consistent busyness to say the least!

Our group of girls from The Career Academy totaled up to about 17 including our 2 instructors. We decided to fly out a day early, before the competition started, and then come home a day later, after the competition ended, so that way we could have some extra time exploring Florida. The exact dates we were gone was June 20- 25th.

Apart from the competition, one of the coolest things we got to experience was Disney World! It was very humid, and a little raining, but nonetheless very exciting to see and check out. We also went through Downtown Disney, looking at the shops and eating dinner at some of the restaurants a couple of times.

I was a little nervous as it had been some quite some time since I’d flown and there were definitely some bumps in the road, but overall everything went smooth and the trip was good.

Lots of pictures to check out below, so don’t miss em!

Thanks for reading + much love,

High School Here She Comes

Em,

Here we are a week away from one of the biggest journeys you’ll encounter in your life and as someone who has gone through the process and just recently stepped away from it, I wanted to share with you 8 things that I learned throughout the years, as I look back on them now.

Your years in high school will be like a roller coaster, there will be lots of highs, but also a good amount of lows. It will be full of all sorts of emotions and memories too. Some days will seem longer than others, but really it will fly by quick. It will have a big impact, but it will not be the thing that defines who you are and your life forever. Remember to stay true to yourself, make good choices, and enjoy it as much as you can.

  1. ย Stay on top of your school work – grades do matter and if you stay on top of everything, you won’t feel like your constantly drowning in assignments. Also that one bad test grade doesn’t define you and will not matter, if you do better on the others.
  2. Your friends will change – Em, I can’t stress this enough! High school is weird and really a time where a lot of people grow and more importantly change. You’ll find some girls that you have more similarities with than others and then ones who you aren’t alike at all. Please don’t be afraid to reach out to new people and stray away from the ones you’ve known forever. You can always be friends, but you don’t have to do everything together.
  3. It doesn’t matter what you wear – seriously girlfriend, no one is going remember and those who care, have their priorities wrong in life. If you’d rather wear a t-shirt and shorts one day, instead of getting all fancy, I promise you, you don’t look like a slob. You’re beautiful always and don’t ever let anyone tell you any different.
  4. Attend as much as possible – but also remember to take care of yourself. Be sure to stay involved, but also know it’s okay to stay in for a night and just rest. Your health (physically, mentally, and emotionally) is important and you have to remember to put it first.
  5. Use a planner and set your stuff out the night before – organization is key, and it will make your life much easier!
  6. Don’t go crazy over boys – they’re gross anyway. Em, I know high school is such a big fest for dating and boys and relationships (and allll that drama), but try to not get caught up with it. Boys are dumb and who are they are in high school is likely who they will either never be or always be in real life. Focus on that because after the four years are over, things will change and you’ll likely go your separate ways.
  7. Try and keep your motivation – Like I said earlier, some days will go fast and some will go slow. The winter months are especially hard, but try and stay as positive as possible. Switch it up as much as needed, it really does go faster than you think.
  8. Have fun – make it your own. These years are yours!! Ultimately, at the end of the day, you decide how everything is going to go. It’s your journey, your choices.

I’m excited to see where you go and what you discover. Remember, I’m always here for you no matter when that is or what it may be. I love you Em, and I’m proud of you.

Go get it girlfriend…

XO,

Davi

Enough With The Excuses

Hey friends,

The past few months have been so crazy and beautiful and exciting and full of change and all this stuff and while there is a handful of good and exciting things going on, there’s a lot of struggle and hardship too.

I’ve noticed a lot lately that I’ve been really disconnected from God. And as hard as that is to share and say, it’s true. I’ve been to church and definitely talked to Him here and there, but I haven’t been fulfilled to the point I want to be. And the scariest part – The scariest part is that I’ve kinda been comfortable. I’m hungry for more, but not enough to where it’s really “bugged me”, and I don’t want to ever reach a point to where I think I’m “okay” without God.

I’ve still had an urge to strive for more, to pursue my relationship with Christ more, but at the same, it’s sort of gotten easier and easier to just set God aside and say “I’ll get to Him later…. when time slows down and I get some alone time. You know, I’ll get to it.”

What I’ve learned is that it’s so easy to just “forget” about God as we go through life. Everything gets so busy and complicated and exciting sometimes, that we just go through it without Him, and forget to set aside that time with Him or to add Him in. And it’s hard. I know it is, I’m telling you right now that it’s a challenge. But you’ve got to do it and once you do it, you’ll want to do it. The rewards are so much better and your load on life will become just a little easier.

Anywho, one of the biggest reasons I felt dragged down/ wasn’t putting in as much effort into making time for God was because I didn’t have my Bible. Somewhere in the midst of all the school/graduation stuff, it got misplaced and while yes, I could probably search and find it, I was really wanting a new one (for a handful of different reasons) – something for a fresh start.

Soooo, I finally put my foot down and told myself to stop going around the matter and just went out and bought me a new one. It’s a really nice, one that I like, and most importantly, one that I’m excited to use! I know my relationship with Christ doesn’t work based off of whether or not I’m reading my Bible, but it’s a big part and it is important to me and somewhere I personally am able to grow.

I guess really I’m just here (mainly as a reminder to myself but also…) to say stop making excuses for whatever is you are and JUST DO IT! I know it’s easy to push away the things we don’t want to do or those that maybe push us out of our situated, comfort zone and carry on without them, but you can’t do that! The reality is that usually the things outside of the box, are much better.

So here I am and here’s to a fresh start, a new beginning and getting back on track to the things that mean the most and will make this life just a little bit easier.

Thanks for reading.

Much love,

Davianne

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: What’s something that you need to do but keeping pushing aside/making excuses for? What do you need to do in order to stop horsing around and get it done?

Be Kind.

Hey guys,

Life has been so crazy (good, but crazy ๐Ÿคฃ) and I know I have totally been MIA ๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿค” but one of these days, I’ll have some free time and get all caught up ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป (I just know it ๐Ÿ˜œ)

Anyways, I wanted to quickly share with you all something that happened the other day and just give you a little food for the thought. ๐Ÿ˜‰

As a lot of you know, I am currently doing practicum hours/student-teaching at Adams Elementary School, here in Lincoln. I am in a wonderful 4th grade classroom and everything involved is seriously such a joy. ๐Ÿ˜Š The students are great, very smart and respectful, but just as in any classroom, there are some days when some differences and conflicts take place. The other day was one of those days…

Last week, the teacher had instructed the students to return their writing binders to the back table once she had finished her lesson. We have a mostly male-dominate class (no specific reason for this, just more boys than girls). One of those males is a young fella who has some different learning needs than the other students, but nevertheless, is just as smart, capable, and unique as the others. Now, I’m not exactly sure what had happened, but sometime in those moments, a conflict occurred among three different students- one being the boy I mentioned earlier.

The teacher and I quickly discovered that one of the boys had gotten into a conflict with our special friend, and it had caused the third student to speak up, loudly and in frustration. Doing so, this upset student had made the comment “I’m tired of **student A always picking on and being mean to **student B for no reason!!”

Man, did that hit me.

Don’t get me wrong, I know all about bullying, especially in schools and have even experienced it first-hand myself, but wow.

I didn’t really know what it was, but that statement really hit me hard.

First of all, I think it just shocked me that these kids, who are only in fourth grade (or better yet, 9 and 10 yrs. old) could already be experiencing this. I mean, I know they’re not babies, but sometimes I think we are so quick to look at bullying in the upper years, that we forget that it is still very real and active from the very beginning.

***I want to be clear that I’m not writing this to just look down, point my finger, or condemn the student was called out for such actions. That is not my intentions at all.

Secondly, I think I was just pleasantly surprised and thought it was really cool to see one student stick up for another. Especially in a situation like that.

I think we can all agree that sometimes it’s easier to just turn our heads the other way and do what’s convenient for ourselves, instead of helping another person out.

We were blessed in this situation to be able to see this take place/ have the knowledge about it and then successfully handle it and (hopefully) prevent it from happening again.

But anyway, I just wanted to share this with you all and tell you about how it reminded me to just be kind and stick up for your fellow neighbor when you see something wrong or hurtful happening.

It surely won’t be any more harmful and if fourth graders can do it, I think we can too.

Amongst people who ive never felt loved by, one lovely soul also outcast by those people told me to never forget I am a very important person. He might never know what that meant to me โค๏ธ

In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

Be Kind Always.. #Kindness A great reminder & so true, we never know what anyone is going through.

Thanks for reading…

Much love,

Davianne
